I am looking to lift my house. It presently does not have a basement, there is a crawl space. So I am looking to see what the procedure would be and the cost involved in such an endeavour. It is a single floor bungalow in the bourough of St Hubert. Qc.
Thank you.
Lucy
Hi Lucy,
Lifting a house can be relatively simple or it can be quite involved. If you are keeping the existing foundation, it makes the job easier. If you have to redo the foundation, it triggers a whole list of other tasks that makes the job much bigger and thusly much more costly. Either way you should allow for extensive patching and painting in the existing structure. As you lift the house, every joint and seam is likely to crack or break open.
Treat this as a large renovation. Your project budget should be $100,000 to $300,000 depending on the extent of new foundation work.
Good luck with your project.
Andrew
Hi, thus kind of project would roughly cost you $100,000.
It's a delicate process of uncoupling your house from the existing foundation and raising it. Then new structural framing would need to be put in to make up for the new basement height.
