Covering exposed roofing nails in kids playhouse roof?

I have a playhouse in my backyard, built years ago by someone handier than me.

My kids are getting taller, and very soon they're going to start cranking their heads against the exposed roofing nails that keep the playhouse shingles on.

I need (please!) advice on the most affordable ways to protect my kids from these nails. I've thought about FOAM (pretty expensive), PING PONG BALLS (too many nails), or maybe INSULATION (toxic?).

Here's a video of the situation:

And I've taken measurements of the areas I need to protect:

47x22.5x2 - SIX areas

47x18.5x2 - TWO areas

32x16x2 - TWO areas

32x22.5x2 - FOUR areas

32x20.5x2 - TWO areas

I look forward to any advice you can give me. Thanks!

You have beautiful kids...

use 1/4-3/8 plywood and mount it withscrews to the roof rafters, 2x4 under the sheeting. You can buy sheets from Home Depot, bring your cutting list to store and they can cut sheets to dimensions...reduce your measurement by 1/4 -1/8 for big areas for ease of installation

To make safe also Check the framing as well for protruding fasteners, rotting planks...

Best regards,

The easiest and best way to eliminate the roofing nails being exposed is to frame around the perimeter of the underside roof with two by two and along the ridge top part of your roof so as you can screw plywood onto that framing which will then eliminate your problem. PS you can even paint murals if you get good one side plywood or even drywall whatever you want to use to cover it in completely. Hope this is helpful

Hi Dan

Yes foam is probably your easiest and least labor intensive way to fix this problem. If you have a Oscillating flush cutter with a fine metal cutting blade(even better) you could just cut off all the protruding nails ( end of problem)

With foam you only require one sheet ( 2 x 8 ) of 1". Cut out a bunch of 2" disks , approx. the size of a hockey puck. Either with a hole saw (just by hand without the arbor) or old tuna cans ( with sharp edges)

Dab a little bit of PL 200 ( Adhesive caulking) around each nail as you go.

Good luck
