Dangers of automatic garage doors

I will never install an automatic garage door. Sometime ago, it almost killed a person whose bicycle was caught by the garage door. Happened in Mississauga, ON. I like to use my muscles on a 100% manual garage door.

Would anyone like to comment on it?

Thank you Martin for your question. Being in the business for over 15 years I would not recommend any homeowner to install there own openers. Although I realize its more cost effective to do it on your own as you already stated the risks are high.. if they are not installed correctly because it goes overhead not only do you risk it falling on your vehicle or belonging but worse on someone that could cause death. These openers are heavy and not machines to install by a DIY. Use a trusted professional.

You are correct. DANGER !

Sometimes we do not know if these automatic garage doors were installed by D I Y or by a skilled professional.

I like the old fashioned lift it yourself (manual) garage doors.
