Disassembling fireplace

We are trying to remove our gas fireplace and mantel (we have the gas contractor coming to cap off the gas supply on Wednesday). We can't figure out how the insert is fixed to the mantel. Do you have any idea how we separate them? It is a direct vent gas fireplace in a wooden mantel. 13 year old home.

It can be tough to determine sometimes.

Some fireplaces have clips that attach to the mantle that can be seen if the front face cover is removed from the unit.

I think from your picture, that mantle may just be attached to the wall.

Try going at it from the outside and see if you can pry it off the wall.

Hope this helps.

Glad it all worked out well.

Are you just changing the mantel or removing fireplace altogether?
