Do I need a permit to put a hot tub in the backyard in New Westminster? I called the city they said no but she sure didn't sound all that reassuring.

Hello Chris,

Good question. Most cities will require you to get a permit for something like that. The permit would involve an electrical permit (it would require a separate higher powered circuit depending on the wattage rating of the hot tub) and a plumbing permit.

This is not to say the people have not done it without a permit though LOL ;)

In Alberta you require a building permit anytime you have a body of water 2' or greater in depth. The idea is that you also then need a 6' high non-climbable (from the outside) fence and gate which would require inspection.
