Do I need to have a license in Canada to be a painter? What are the requirements?
Claudia,
You need a business license, liability insurance and a paint brush.
:)
Although Mike is right, and anyone can call themselves a painter, the paint brush becomes a weapon when placed in those not qualified. ? Red seal training is what seperates the Pros from the amateurs. For example, we have one of our painters who went to school for four years and has all their tickets for painting, spraying, working with chemicals, etc. Can you guarantee peeling or chipping or spray paint a swimming pool? What kind of paint do you use for different surfaces? There is more to painting than holding a brush and roller.
You do not need a license to be a painter. But you require a business license to operate. Do you need red seal... no. I have all the books if you can read you can become a journey-person red seal. Is it beneficial? Yes it is because customers believe you have the proper training.
You need the knowledge and experience on what product to use and where and when. Painting is actually easy... but you need to care and appreciate what you are doing to give your customer the quality and experience they deserve.
