Do not, I repeat, Do not use the following contractors in the Toronto area.
Big scammers, take your money and run, never finish the job nor do it correctly.
CASA BELLA INTERNATIONAL aka ALLOPRO SERVICE (on telephone contact) (416) 831-4895- Peter Kelfur aka Peter Haloulos calls himself a general contractor with professional crew but he is nothing but a big scam artist. He took a very large amount of money when he started the job and disappeared with is unprofessional crew taking even tools I bought for the reno.
He had sub contracted another crew lead by another handyman not a skilled crew at all Jay Farro (416) 243-0162 or (416) 268-6093
MINI ELECTRIC INC - Esteban
Took very long, many electrical errors and never finish after he got paid according to the written contract.
REALTOR'S RENO - Sohail Bharde (647) 293-2505 Not a professional, just a handyman, many errors in plumbing and basement renovatios, took too long and after he got paid in full he disappeared.
STC contracting by Bashar and Sam (416) 837-4955 another scam artists at their best.
Picked up their tools and disappeared after they received the full payment on their contract.
Horror stories, its unfair that the Ontario government is unable to keep a database to track bad contractors in this province.
I am in the process of seeking legal action against all of them but according to courts they wish homeowners good luck......thats all
Thanks nick for the heads up!
Hi Nick- sorry about your luck, but why did you pay these guys in full if they were not finished what you were paying them to do? Deposits I understand, because a lot of guys, including myself, want to cover up front costs- it also establishes trust- but myself, I never expect full payment until all the work is done & the client is happy. These guys have moved on to the next job, because you already paid them. You could try sueing them, but something tells me they won't show up. Good luck Nick
Would you pay for your new $50,000 car before delivery. Why would you hire anyone without checking out their work in person? Sorry to here stories like this, but you have to see an insurance certificate , ask for refrences and personally look at their work for quality and workmanship.
There are so many theives out there and unfortunately you got taken by several of them. Never, never, never pay up front. The standard in the industry is a 1/3 when the materials arrive, a 1/3 while work is well underway and balance upon completion and customer satisfaction. Always check references, inspect insurance, wsib, and licences and get a written contract with clearly defined payment schedules and detail of work to be done and what is included for the price. I can't stress this enough - don't choose your contractor based on cheapest price!!! There are scammers out there everywhere and it's not only the customers who get ripped off. We as honest contractors also get taken by crooked customers far more often than you may think. A crook is a crook period. I wish you luck getting these guys and I hope you get your money back. Best of luck.
Please add another name to the list "Apex Design & Build Limited". These guys did my basement renovation of poor quality, left unfunished and moved to Alberta from GTA.
STC contracting also goes by the name SIE design. The two contractors are Sam and Bouchard (Bashir or Bashar) Sawan. They tried the same scam by trying to get all the money up front. When I refused, they did not return to finish the work. Their telephone number of 416-837-4955 is still valid.
Hi Nick. Unfortunately I found this message board too late. I too hired Baushard (Bashar) Sawan and Sami from STC Contracting. They did like 1/3 of the work, took my money, then disappeared. Now I'm left with a house that is torn apart and unsafe. I paid for alot of the materials upfront and never got to see any of it. Repeated calls to their number have gone unanswered and their mailbox is always full so that no messages can be left. You hear so many horror stories about homeowners getting scammed by shady contractors, but you never think that you would be one of them. The thing is I tried to follow the standard protocol of asking for business numbers, checking references, and looking at pictures of previous work, but still that didn't work. I'm now in the process of taking them to court. How did your legal action against them go? Were you able to get them to court??
Any information to help get these bastards would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at email@example.com. Thanks.
Anyone who is about to hire a contractor or has hired a bad contractor should read this article from the City of Toronto.
I hired a bad contractor last year, and like most, paid most of the money upfront for materials. The contractor did some of the work, but disappeared half way with the rest of the money and left my house in a mess. I tried contacting the contractor every day, but he screened and avoided all my calls. I was out a couple thousand dollars. I even had a contract written up, did a few reference checks, and got their licence number. But it turned out to be a fake. I found all this out too late. I went to the police, and they did nothing. They said the only thing i could do is go to small claims court, and that didn't guarantee anything.
I thought everything was lost and hopeless. Then I found the article from the City of Toronto website. I sent an email to the City of Toronto municipal licencing to file a complaint. Right away they followed up with me, opened up the case, and sent an investigator to my home. The investigator took all my information, examined the contractor's work and found that they did not have the proper permits and licencing. The investigator tracked down the contractor/sub contractors involved and enforced hefty charges and licencing conditions on them. The investigator also acted as a mediator.
The contractor, in order to avoid the hefty fines, then agreed to pay back most of the money that was owed to me. The contractor was then redflagged and given a time frame to get properly licenced.
The investigator was a godsend. He helped me recover the lost money and finally hire a reputable contractor to finish off the work. I can't believe there are people out there that prey on innocent homeowners.

I have a do not hire contractor to add to the list: CLAYTON CUSTOM CREATIONS (TOM CLAYTON), operating out of Elora, Ontario (working primarily in the Waterloo and Wellington areas).
Beware of this person! I paid him a $600 deposit, plus I paid another $575 for materials, to put up a small fence. A small job which a professional would have completed in a few days. The only time he showed up was to collect the deposit, which he was very anxious to get. After 15 days of contacting him daily, asking when he would be starting the job, he had the most pathetic excuses why he could not do the job. On the 15th day I asked for my money back, I had enough. He said he didn't have it anymore and was not going to do the job, wow! Unbelievable.
It has been horrible dealing with this unprofessional person, so stressful. I had to contact him daily to ask him to show up and work. Every day he would tell a lie why he couldn't work and then say he was on his way, or that he was coming tomorrow which never happened. I now have to take him to small claims to get my money back. So disgusting that people like this are out in the field scamming the public!!!!
Ok people, I am SOHAIL BHARDE one of the SO CALLED frauds in the above list.
Just use common sense, how come all the contractors he hired ran away with his hard earned money and why hasn't he sued any of us, we were all working there at the same time. This guy was flipping the whole house gave contract for portians and we all decided to leave together because this cheapoo wanted everyone to do extra work out of contract initially done, held the last payment and forced to do the extra work, but there is a limit to everything, so we all together decided to leave togethe.
I WAS THE LAST ONE WHO LEFT THAT'S WHY I GOT SUCH CUTE REMARKS BECAUSE I GAVE HIM CRAP FOR HIS ACTIONS.
This guy ripped me off with 8000 dollar, he provided all the contract and detail properly like he is a genuine guy. But he has ruined my basement and i hope no one should fall prey for him. He is finding his clients off Kijiji, so people who are trying to find a cheap contractor he will definitely contact you guys.
Now we lost all the money with demolished basement, is there anyone here can help me find this guy and get my money back. Any help will be helpful.
Sorry to hear that. Add the following companies to the list:
DYLCO BUILDERS INC
DURHAM BATHROOMS INC
Owners are Dylan Resnick, Eliot Resnick and Justin Resnik
Both companies operate out of the same office in Oshawa. Both companies Facebook pages have reviews from family and friends. ALL LIES. Dylco did an absolute horrible job on my mother's house and stiffed the subcontractor a week before my deadline. I suspect they keep changing company names to avoid being caught by potential new customers.
