I had new American Standard furnace installed in 2012. There is 10 years warranty on parts. There was a problem with the furnace and I called the installer. He came and changed the igniter. But one thing that he told me is very strange. He said that when he went to get my igniter, the company told him that instead of 2022 the warranty will be expired in December 2017, because the another company bought this company. He also told me that he paid for my igniter from his pocket.
My argument is that when one business is buying another business, the liabilities are also transferred. It's not possible that they will just cancel all the warranties.
If he is wrong, can you please tell me why he said such thing?
Seems odd, I would contact the company that bought American Standard.
Hello Fahd,
Parts are warrantied by manufacturer not the installing company. The warranty is usually for 5 years but it extends to 10 years by registering within 3 month from installation. If the manufacturer says the warranty expire on 2017, it would mean the furnace was not registered after installation. That is the reason that we register, keep a copy and send a copy to customer. But, most companies tell the customer to register it.
If you have the installation invoice which states 10 years warranty, then they have to give you that warranty even if manufacture doesn't approve the claim. If that company is sold, unless a written document from previous owner exists, the warranty transfers to new company.
I hope I answered you question.
Thanks and good luck!
They didnt register the furance online or to the manufacture
Furnaces come with standard 5 years, and you have to register them online for the other 5 years
Someone didnt do their job....
You are dealing with a legal matter sometimes a company takes over another and chooses not to honor the policies of the other company. Although it's not cool it is legal. Most companies that do this send out a letter to all registered clients. Registration cards come with most appliances and fixtures in a house. Your best bet is to find out the truth for yourself. Take the model, serial and part number of the furnace and call the company ask tell them your situation and let them know you want the old warranty honored. Most places will comply.
I would contact the company that assumed American Standard. Explain the problem and I am very certain your problem will be dealt with to your satisfaction. You have to ralize the HVAC business is extremely competetive no manufacteurer is going to take a chance of a lost future sale over a 25.00 part. They will reimburse you for the part it just makes good business sense. I am going to loose a 2000.00 furnance sale in the future over an ignitor? Not going to happen. All the best Jack
