Hey guys. So I have recently started boarding drywall for a buddy that has a taping company. He has been giving me some boarding jobs and I have done them myself.
I feel like Im being under payed though as he says .30 cents is standard rate for boarding all around.. I get if you walk into a large area and start throwing up boards. But that isn't the case with most of these jobs.
I've done Reno's for quite a while have never used one standard rate for any of my work tbh. Always have to look at what I'm up against. Tiling, painting etc. Just don't know boarding..
My current job has about 950sqft basement large room, closet, under stairs with tons of cuts, bulkheads and ceiling included. Plus half a garage ceiling included and only making $450 on the whole job.. is this normal?
I'm working my ass off but it doesn't seem to be fast to feel like I'm making actual money.
Basically what I amm asking is for someone to tell me drywall hanging rates in Calgary Alberta. Basic? Ceiling? Area with non stop cuts??
Or how to calculate without getting fucked over
When doing other work I always account for extra shit but hasn't been the case working under this guy was I really don't have much say
I added a pic of just one part of that basement job as reference. Had nothing else
Thanks again!
Fortunately for you your instincts are correct. Way under paid. All bulkheads windows etc are extra. Not only should you be making enough to pay for help as well. Basement drywall is tougher to hang as walls are less then 8' unlike a main floor so every piece needs to be cut. 900 sqft basement with ceilings. Ceilings alone worth $1 sqft you should be getting nearly $1800-2200 minimum without seeing. Bording is laborous work
You see guys working in the industry doesnt mean their making money stick up for yourself by getting your own contracts its the only way out
I want to point out that the sqft is the board itself counted of what I put up in just the basement. So is that the same?
Im not sure what the prices are in Calgary but in Toronto you would be paid between $1.25-1.80 minimum, someone is making a lot of money of your work. Demand a lot more or go out on your own. Best of luck
.40-.50/sqft labor only is average for a "professional" boarder and .70 for taper, materials' are separate. Add to labor the exact materials cost, disposal cost and the time to deliver/handle materials and add 25-30% mark-up for your time ..that should give reasonable and competitive rate. Anything less and you are being taken advantage of my friend.
