I want to build some new bookshelves for my apartment and don't want to spend the money or have the sterile look of Ikea ones. I have some reno experience but I'm not an expert by any means. Does anyone have any suggestions toward making simple, nice-looking bookshelves?
Maybe you should go to your local library and borrow a book on DIY. Some of them are really easy-- wood from ikea, etc. Good luck!
You could use ordinary MDF wood painted to an appropriate colour. If its DIY you are looking for do not try and make it too fancy. As Grace said go to your local library and borrow a book on DIY. A little book can go a long way.
Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't going to attempt anything too fancy and was probably just going to try to mount some finished, possibly painted slats of wood onto the wall itself so it's as easy as possible. I'll check out a DIY book first though.
What type of woods you're planning to use for DIY a bookselves? As the woods quality will also a big effect on the bookselves itself...
Perhaps you could just go to an IKEA and buy prefabricated boards. They are good quality and very reasonably priced.
