A good guide to follow is it works out to about $80 per location. Example to wire a bedroom light would be roughly $240. 3 locations are needed. Wire from the panel to the switch is 1&2

Switch to the light is 3 locations.

Hydro upgrades and panel work is tough to estimate without a visual on the project.

I don't know any electrical contractors that price per square foot. Some will do a price per device, but not many.

The issue is that hanging a light fixture will vary, number of pot lights, special equipment such as well pumps, sewage pumps, etc.

I tell my clients to budget 10% of the build cost for electrical. So a $200,000 build cost is a $20,000 electrical budget.

Hi,

If it's a custom home and if you have Architect plan prepared ask for 3 Quotes on Forum.

Typical standard with 200 Amp service single family home without finishing fixtures and labour to hang them but light point included would be 25 k. and up. Hydro connection fees separate. Basement minimum unfinished condition considered.

Hope that helps.

I've built a couple custom homes and renovated several. Contrary to what one poster said, I've had most general quotes by sq ft. I have been quoted anywhere from 3.50 to 8 per sq foot for standard to meet code, obviously when adding fixtures, extras, pot lights, etc it will add to the cost but generally I was told what was included and what was extra. I've always been happy with the work that was done.

I've seen a lot of crazy gouging on here, pros quoting 20k to rough in a 1000 sq ft which is ridiculous. Also budgeting 10% is also absurd in my opinion. I just built a 3000 sq ft bungalow, the price was approx 800k, and I can assure you our electrician didn't charge 80k...we paid 1/4 of that and we installed smart lights, 50 pot lights inside and out, ceiling fans, etc ...Hey if they are getting that type of money all the power to them but you can find a great a electrician for a fraction of that.
