Electrical Panel upgrade/replacement 100-200A

I would like to upgrade my 100A breaker panel to a 200A panel.

I would like to replace it and all breakers since it is fairly old (1994 Chalenger PM120).

The existing 100A panel is in an unfinished basement the bottom of the panel is 53 inches from the floor. The floor to ceiling height is 92 inches. (see picture attached)

For ease in wiring I would choose a 200A panel with the same width as the 100A panel but the bottom of the new panel would be closer to the floor since the length is greater.

What is minimum height required from the floor to the bottom of the panel?

Phil

Hi Phil,

ESA Regulations require the electrical panel be no higher then 6 ft to top of the panel, no minimum height is specified, however, with the panel in the basement, it cannot br lower than 3 feet due to the risk of flooding. Hope this helps.

Hi,

It doesn't matter if you mount your panel vertical or horizontal but it need to be at 1.7m to the highest point of a breaker.

Dear Phil,

Thank you for contacting Quality Potlight with such a great question.

The minimum height required from the floor to the bottom of the panel would be 30 inches.

To solve any spacing issues, you could have the unit installed sideways.

Thanks,

Dana
