Is it possible to transfer a permit from one to another electrical contractor. The electrician we have is stalling-for 8 weeks now, without electrical in some rooms, receptacles tripping, switches not switching anything on etc. We would like to have a more trusted electrician finish the job and get our final electrical inspection so we know we are safe.

No, I don't believe that is possible. Contact the ESA in Cambridge & confirm with them what your options are. Each contractor takes out a permit in their business name & that's who receives the final inspection certificate. If you are under contract with your current electrical contractor then this becomes a legal matter.

No you cant transfer permits. You need to have the existing permit work inspected and the permit closed out then your new contractor would need to get their own permit.

Having been in this situation several times (where we had to take over) I can assure you that permits (which in Ontario are actually called Applications for Inspections) cannot be transferred. What is also important is that the details of what is completed is recorded for liability and warranty purposes.

Hi There,

It is not possible to transfer the permit. However, you can close the permit and next electrician will pull the permit and finish the job and get the inspection done.

It is possible to get the electrician to bill out for the work completed and then following that get another electrician in there to finish the job. I would be very caution there are many electricians out there and not all of them are pulling permits are even have a contractors license.

Thx,
