Please help! Got windows installed in my basemen that were suppose to be energy saving. When asked for the energy rating sticker that I need to provide to the inspector, the agent told my father not to ask the installer any questions and that they don't make stickers for these window. I have the feeling now that I got scammed into cheap basement windows.
Please help and advised asap!
I have installed a lot of windows they all come with stickers describing weather they are low-e argon filled or not.
Not all windows that are on the market are energy star rated. All of our windows come with a sticker showing Air, Water and Wind test results as well as screen strength and resistance to forced entry. This will tell you the performance of the window as required by CANCSA-A440 testing requirements. Even if you don't see an Energy Star logo, you should still have been provided with these test results. Energy Star ratings are based on U-Values, Solar Heat Gain Co-efficient and Energy Rating.
Hope this helps.
First, not all windows on the market today have an Energy Star rating. That does not mean the window does not meet Energy Star criteria, just that the company making the window has not done the back end testing to be listed with Energy Star Canada. It sounds like you are applying for the Home Reno Rebate. The Home Reno Rebate requires an Energy Star rated window. If this is the case I recommend asking for the company to match the rebate, which is $40 per rough opening. Don't feel scammed, a new window installed today will be an improvement on older windows.
Can you please show me an example of what the sticker looks like? The company still refuses the do anything when I call them. They have changed their story again saying oh the sticker is there when it's not!
Any suggestions to what I can do?
All energy star windows have a sticker its the law. What you can check maybe is inside the thermos if something is written. Usually all the thermos have numbers and its says if they have gaz lowe and argon on them. But you should really ask the company where they buy their thermos from as well.If its written Energy star on the invoice they have to give you the sticker to prove it.
Thank you everyone for your replies. Yesterday, I made a consumer complaint to the ministry and the company has now provide proof of the windows are energy saving. The inspector approved of their documents.
Thanks for the good advice!
