Hi there,

Firstly there are very little fence contractors erecting fence at four feet or more due to cost and to be fair frost line most probable sub 8 ft minimum so pointless thinking of frostline. Erect fence in 2 ft holes belled at bottom and filled with concrete.

You usually put 1/3 of the hight of the post into the ground so a 6ft fence should be a minumim of 2 ft into the ground. I always do 3 ft to 4ft if possible.

Frost line is 4ft in ontario

If you don't put your posts a minimum of 4' below grade, the frost WILL force the post out of the ground, eventually.

See the City of Mississauga poorly installed posts all along Rathburn close to Dixie Rd. They all need to be replaced.
