Hello,
I am about to seek estimates for drywall finishing for a basement development in Cochrane, Alberta. My basement is approx. 650 sq. ft (developed), with 9 ft. ceilings. The drywall took 66 full sheets (many were 54" x 10).
I wonder if there are general guidelines on cost per sq. foot, or cost per sheet for drywall finishing (mud and tape) -- getting the walls and ceiling paint-ready. The ceiling will be spray sand or popcorn texture -- not sure if that changes the difficulty in taping and mudding it.
And...how many quotes/estimates would you recommend? I currently have one for $2200, which strikes me as high.
Thank you.
Steve
For Hanging , and Muddying, tape and ready to prime...I'd budget about$175+ per square feet plus your materials, prime and paint would likely hang over to the painters to do.
Keep in mind price of drywall delivered via home depot is to your door step not to the room , you need it.
So make sure you compare delivered to the room prices vs what a sheet lying on the shelf at HD costs.
Hello Steve
Our base price for taping starts at $0.90sqft
In most cases our price is more like $1.25sqft. As for the ceilings texture or paint grade paint grade costs more from a taping point of view. But once you factore in that cost against texture or paint supplies and labour it ends up costing around the same in the end.
Thank you
Brandon
First off you are absolutely correct, that is an obsurd number you were quoted. second it really depends on what size of job you're dealing with and who the contractor is. So if I'm supplying all the material on a job your size I would charge about 2.00$ a square foot because that pays for material, labour and gas. But if I had a small crew an a milk run we could do every day for weeks to come,I might charge you less because I already have a bunch of work and my labor is cheaper, and more efficient. And when it comes to the ceiling,it's very similar if you're dealing with a larger guy, they'll be more willing to cut you a deal for the same reasons,a smaller guy that's hungry for your work wants at least 300$ per visit.
