What is better advised to use to frame exterior walls of unfinished basement: metal frame or treated wood?

i'd personally use untreated wood if it's done right, but if that isn't an option then treated wood over steel.

I've been building 10k+ sqft custom homes with fully finished basements for the last 10 years and like working with wood. The walls should be plenty strong and durable, you can provide lots of backing for boxes, trim, etc.

Hi,

We have always used high grade wood for all well studs and upper plates. All the lower wall plates are blue board. Remember to purchase a can of the treatment and brush it on to all fresh cut ends. We install a foam underlay below all lower plates and then Ramsey the walls in place. We have never had a problem with this.

Now if you are working in a home that has had flood issues. And they have not been addressed by excavating fully around the entire structure and new sweepers installed with proper runs to sewage. Or dump pumps. Then go with the metal studs. But personally I would not spend a dime inside until the problem is addressed.

I use treated bottom plates and wood studs.

I always use wood for framing basement exterior walls and partition walls. I only use steel studs for framing ceiling bulkheads inch and 5/8 so as to gain as much ceiling space as possible. You need 6 mil poly under all bottom plates of all walls and we use pressure-treated bottom plates only. Hope that helps

I like treated bottom plates and wood studs personally.

Steel studs are much faster and cleaner, but also transfer energy through them.
