Are renovation company or contractor lie about their references or give false reference to client, is this illegal?
Hi
It's not illegal but it's morally wrong!
We always tell clients to call references and look at on line reviews as the contractor has no control over on line reviews!
Do research on them before deciding.
Hi look at work and ask for insurance verification
Wsib certification and trade certification.
Make sure all of these are up to date and current
If they lie about references they will certainly not have certification!
Hope this helps!

Yes, its called fraud.
I don't believe it is illegal, but always hire a company with a good reputation, and a good name, if they don't look or seen professional, avoid it.
... wish would have known more and known this site
Suzuko, we hear you on that.
Hiring a contractor does always have a level or risk..
You needed to do your homework to ensure everything is at least seems OK and at the business at least looks like they put some effort to get your business..
Don't just believe in photos and talks.
IMO, the level of detail in a quote will shows volume of contractor experience and how much afford they put in to ensure everything is though of. If the estimate is slim on details, I would be worry.
Photos and references is nice but it only do so much.. We have interview Subs and potential employees that have tons of previous project picture and some references.. But in fact they are only working as a small part of the team that did those work and their skill is lacking..
