I built a new home in 2009 and went with KWP wood siding because I was told it was one of the best products out there. It was also one of the most expensive. I was told it could be applied over 1 inch Styrofoam insulation without strapping.
On the south side of my house the product is not standing up to the heat. I have had a sales rep out several times who keeps blaming the installer. The product is lifting and now the paint is coming off. I was also told the joints could be caulked and the caulking is coming out of all the joints. I have had the caulking redone once and it is doing the same thing. The last time the rep was out he admitted there is a paint issue but has done nothing. He said the would give me a can of paint so I could repaint it my self. I feel this is totally unacceptable and am very disappointed in this product.
Has anyone else had a bad experience with this product?

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your siding, it is my belief the issue you are having with your siding is install related. I personnely would never install a wood base product directly on SM with out some type of strapping to allow for air movement. Wood is a natural product and needs to able to breath in order to perform properly.
The bad news is if you re-paint the product you will be doing it every few years there is unfortunately no quick fix.
Do you have any updates on your KWP?
We installed KWP over ICF and it shrank up to a 1/2" we contacted KWP they told us to caulk it and it looks terrible, our customer is really unhappy with the product and they will not warranty it.
I have the same story except I used 3/8 plywood strips on top of my insulation.
My siding even came damaged by a forklift.
I have the KWP siding on every wall, the main problem is the south wall. The South shrunk more than the spacer allows for. The paint has been peeling about 2 years after installation. The KWP rep blamed the installation for the peeling. Funny how the paint only peels in direct sun light on the South side. The top board does not peel because it is shaded by the overhang.
I feel totally insulted and ripped off by the way these KWP crooks blame everything on installation and do not accept Any responsibility for their product.
