I have a house built in 1952 and all the floors are hardwood. I want to get them refinished but they also squeak....is the squeaking fixed at the same time if refinishing?
Hi there
typically, these are two unrelated issues. Fllor refinishing is the top, the squeaking comes from the boards moving and rubbing, which is essentially a result of them having been nailed down a very long time ago, and now the structure has settled, and likely the flooring has shrunk some.
The squeaks are eliminated by re-securing them, or possible with shims from underneath the floor, if there is access.
Either way, not related to the refinishing work.
Hope this helps.
