Hi Rick,

I believe the best type of flooring for you, in your situation would be laminate. With your 2 dogs, the carpet would not be a great choice because of the hair the dogs would shed into the carpet, as well as the dust it would collect. The vinyl would be subjcet to tearing or denting from the dogs claws.

The laminate would be the hardest of the 3 choices, and it would give a modern look to your dining room/living room. It is the most durable, and has the greatest selection of types, colours etc... My only concern would be the kitchen, where you might opt for a tiled floor. I am not sure if the layout of your floor would allow for the tiles or if you need the entire floor to be one substrate.

Hope this helps give you some insight into your flooring questions.

I just installed vinyl tile in my kitchen and it looks awesome. It is laid and grouted just like ceramic tile. knowbody that sees it can tell that its vinyl. I also have 2 english cocker spaniels and they are crazy. They don't stand a chance with the new tile.

Good luck

Hello Rick,

I agree wtih Bill--laminate would be the most reliable especially with dogs running around. The only thing with laminate in the kitchen is the possibility of water damage. If, for example, a dishwasher flooded, it could ruin a good portion of your floor. Personally, I believe that tile is the best choice for kitchens or bathrooms. They are durable, beautiful and will last many years. If your area allows you, I would suggest tiling the kitchen and putting laminate in the dining room.

Hope this helps!

Laminate but make sure it is not a cheap one. I have 2 dogs as well. My new house had a really good wood floor, looked like hand scrapped in about 1 week.

We are looking @ some laminate now that I actually placed in a clients home. The laminate we removed from her floor was so thin where Dining table was was dents.

You should install hardwood flooring in your kitchen and living room. Hardwood is a very durable flooring material that makes it the perfect choice for most areas of the home. Bamboo is another best flooring material for the kitchen and living room because it is resistant to moisture and water damage. Ceramic is also the best kitchen flooring option because it is also resistant to water and stains. Vinyl is the best choice for high-traffic areas like kitchens and living rooms. This flooring is resistant to stains, damage, and water issues.
