I am looking into the feasibility of one or two potential additions to a 1.5 story "war time" house in the Lethbridge area.
1. Front entry addition. This would extend the house by about 80 square feet, and have two closets.
2. Dormer addition. This would be potentially 6 to 8 feet wide to increase the size of a bedroom on the second floor. The dormer would extend into the void space of the 1.5 story house.
Any advice or price expectations would be great.
Thanks!
Good day, Lethbridge. Before any estimate, I would suggest contacting your local building inspector (Superior Inspections or the Inspection Group) for some, usually free, advice. You have to make sure the original structure can support the additions and changes. Once that is done, you can call around for free estimates. THis will provide you with a "Ball park" figure. From there you can make the choices for contractor, type of materials, styles, and how much you awant done. (To the finished stage or to a point where you could paint, decorate, wall paper, etc.)
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Mark
Good answer Mark. If they do it in your area, that's great. I've not heard of them doing it here in Kitchener ON. area. They will usually simply tell you to get a designer and bring the drawings in for a permit. If the city will not do that, I'd call a contractor, offer him a nominal amount and have him have a look at it for you. If he gets the job, he'll probably include the fee in the job. :)
Good luck. :)
Marcel.
