My furnace won't come back on after it has reached the programmed temperature. I have to shut off the power to it, then it will reset itself, come back on, reach the programmed temperature and do it all over again.
Any ideas or suggestions?
Hi Leo
You could have several things going wrong. Maybe your furnace isn't supposed to be turning back on because it has detected an error/malfunction. Your powering down and causing a reset on the unit may not be the best thing.
In your situation I would be calling in a furnace specialist to look at your situation.
There is a few items that may cause this, the most common item is your flame sensor. Over the course of an average heating season carbon and other deposit may build up on the sensor. This senor is used to detect if the flame has ignited.
By using mild steel wool only (no sand paper or sos pads) remove any build up on the sensor. if your not sure what the sensor looks like I do recommend calling a qualified service technician.
We had the same symptoms recently. They changed the circuit board and violated me for $800. Then 11 months later the same thing. They sent out a green guy and it took him 3 tries and 5 days before he just changed the circuit board again. Thank god under warranty.
By the way, the first board failed in month 61 of a 5 year (60 month) warranty on a new furnace and they did not honour it. They are a big operation here in Halton.
Cheers.
Tom
I would contact your furnace contractor. It might cost you $60 to get it checked out but just pushing the reset is not safe.
May have furnace fault code. This is erased every-time you shut furnace off. Needs too be checked, furnace needs servicing.
Need service. Tune up.
It can be one of safety switches malfunctioning.
If it must be replaced & wiring checkup.
Thx
