Hello,
I am at the end of a major renovation of my first floor. I contracted a company to do my tile floors as well as my kitchen remodel (cabinets, quartz, backsplash, etc)
most of all was done very nice almost at the end of the project, I noticed that the grout was discolored ( I have wood tile planks, grout was supposed to be mocha and it shows grayish). The grout used was laticrete permacolor select mocha...
when I approached the contractor he said that he wasn't sure why this happened... he said it could be the water, how it was mixed or how it was cleaned after application.
He tried an enhancer and it did not work. he then tried a grout colorant and it seemed to work.
My question is . is this a reasonable compromise? will the colorant stay and work?
should I ask to have the tile re grouted?
Thank You
Hello,
The fact the contractor addressed the issue on two separate occasions shows professionalism. Mistakes happen, if you are satisfied with the result after this final remediation then I would say leave it there.
Perhaps ask for a written warranty on the colour, if it fades badly within a year or such.
It can be regrouted but that isn't always a smooth process and can be difficult not to damage tile, baseboards, toekicks and transitions -- or heated floors for that matter.
Up to you but if the colour is consistent I would say let it be.
Regards,
Tom
I have used grout colorant a few times with great success. As long as it is applied in accordance to manufacturers instructions. You mentioned an enhancer was used prior to this. The enhancer must be removed prior to applying the colorant in order for it to bond directly to your existing grout. The colorant seals at the same time protecting your color against any staining.

MM Tile Installations
The grouting is very important. This particular product is new for most of the contractors with a die pack separate.
Quantity of water, Quality of water, mixing of the grout, application of the grout, the sponge (mostly dirty used by majority of the contractors) ALL steps are very important. The more precision the better results as described you will get.
See the link and recall the process your tiles layer did exactly what is told? If yes then call the Representative they should help fix it for you.
