I've been considering putting new siding on my house. I love the look of wood but then theres the maintanence thing behing that choice. Then it was recomened i use HARDIE Plank siding.
What is it? How long does it last? $cost$ sq ft? Is it easy to install? What styles are availible?
Hi bob my name is Michael and I do vinyl siding jobs and also vinyl shake siding that looks like wood and comes in different colors. it is more expensive but it is very easy to clean and maintain.
Hardie Plank / Hardie Board is roughly 2x more money for the materials, but its no more expensive to install.
Personally, I'm a big VInyl Siding believer, the color doesnt even begin to fade for 10 years and then you can have 20+ more before you really need to look at redoing it...
Hardie Board in MY opinion, is not worth the added cost of the materials, if you want to insulate your home better from the outside, use a 3/4 inch foam board. Its cheaper, and VERY easy to install.
I too love the look of real wood, but hate (with a passion!) the yearly maintenance that goes along with it. I re-sided my cottage last year using GemThane siding. It's real wood that's coated with an industrial strength coating. It never, ever fades, and I don't have to re-paint every year. And it's supposed to stay this way basically until I kick the bucket! Their website is gemthanesiding.com.
I am a believer in Vinyl Siding also, Lots to choose from, I agree on going with the foam board and vinyl vs the Hardi.
