Hi there. I have an existing deck on my house. I want to put a hot tub on it. How can i find the weight capacity rating of my existing deck? Would you be able to help me figure that out.
You'll need an engineer for that
Hi Greg
The ability of your deck to support the hot tub will be based on the capacity of the hot tub ( weight factor of tub filled with water and patrons ) combined with the structure of the deck itself.
To do the calculations, we would need to see the actual deck and supports to determine exactly what is there.
Please provide your address, contact information, and tentative schedule for the site visit.

Is all depending on how your deck was build.. Vs size of your hot tub..
Unless you built the deck, have official blueprint for the deck or take the support out of the ground, you won't truly know how the support column was built and therefore don't really truly know how much it could hold.
The support column itself is a big part of it.
There are lots of detail that is need to figure out what could your deck holds.
1st concrete column size
2nd vertical support post size
3rd how was the beam constructed (like size and span)
4th how big and what is the spacing of the floor joist
5th what is the deck surface made of
6th how high is the beam / deck from the ground
7th how big your hot tub.
Chance unless your deck was built with hot tub in mind it will unlikely will be ok to put a hot tub on..
Usual deck is roughly able to support 40lb per sqft but hot tub that are 3ft high filled with water will weight around 100lb+ per Sqft
So likely have to figure out ways to strengthen every part of that deck.
