How do I fire my contractor?

Good morning folks.

I am having renovation issues with the quality of workmanship from my contractor in ontario.

I have spoken with him and he has taken pictures of all his guys work. Many many quality issues.

I have been nice and have given them a chance to fix it. I dont have high Hope's but I like to give the benifits of the doubt.

Where can I turn to to replace and fire them? I found some consumer protection act links.

Would quality of workmanship count as misleading and let me break the contract and take them to court for the difference in any costs? We have not paid for work that was not completed other then the tiling of the dinning room and kitchen. We have found 10 uneven tiles in that area alone and its maybe 150 ft3.

I want to prepare everything for the worst case scenario.

I'm very frustrated and feel backed into a corner. It's been a month and the bathroom is not even done.

Thank you very much for all your help.

Hi Shawn

This looks like a very unusual tub set up.

It looks like it's set up for a shower because the tapes are quite high as well as the soap dish. Where that dish dish/nich is

will NOT pass inspection because it sticks out and is a safety hazard. if this is not a shower then obviously you must stand up to turn on the water and to get your soap.

The tapes must be near the spout and the soap dish /niche must be in the wall cavity

flush to the finished wall. Fire him because

a lot has to be ripped out to be corrected.

Good luck

Hello

I looked at the pictures, obviously there are some or as u said many mistakes and issues are with this bathroom Reno.

The niche must be install or build during the filing not prior specially when u use subway tiles.

However, I don't know what we can do for u and what do u expect the contractors at Trusted pro do for u.

This bathroom should have been redone by professional.

What ever you do with this guys are waisting. U need legal advice, a home inspector, and start dealing with court matter. And the same tile hire a professional to re do the bathroom.

U need to budget the cost and if u can get money back from this contractor after few years then use that money to cover this loss.

If u live Toronto area and need my help contact me.

Good luck.

Unfortunately this looks bad real bad.

I would give your contractor one last email so you can keep track of your correspondence. Blame to him you had other contractors look at his work and it is unacceptable needs to be ripped out and redone properly and there'll be no more money given until it is completed give him the option to correct his wrong and put a timeline on it! I highly recommend you call a trusted Pro contractor in your local area to come over and view in person so he can take his own pictures in case you do go to court down the road this will be your Ace in the Hole. I personally would fire his ass upon having another contractor in to verify everything in person and get it done properly ASAP. Good luck sorry for your inconvenience. Hopefully you did not take the lowest quote and did some research on your contractor? If not next time make sure you do

Hi,

My opinion is stop right the way contractor to continue any work.

Get in home inspector and try to get professional tile installer to make you a new quote and advice (will be perfect if you can get 3 companies) ask them for favour and write issue so you will have some kind of document.

Court is long process and I think is not good idea, if he close company in in one year you lost all money for lawyer and filling court.

If you get chance from contractor to sign you paper that he will not put lien that will be perfect.

You lost money on this project for sure.

If you look from contractor side he can say that everything is fine record to him, and he can put lien on your property until you don't pay what he asking or when court will be done.

Be careful with everything ask legal advice and protect yourself.

This just my personal advice.

Hi Shawn,

Much of what I see in these pictures is incorrectly installed. It wouldnt suprise me one bit if the water and drains are also not properly hooked up. Im sorry to say but you will have to redo this bathroom. Also do not let this company do any further work.

If you need any assistance you can call me. My company does work in your area. Thanks

How much did you pay for this work?

You need to tell him that his services are no longer required due to the quality issues, It appears many things need to be ripped out and re done, I also have some concerns as a qualified electrician would never have a plug behind the cabinet which means no ESA permit, which means null and void insurance if there is an issue in the bathroom. Good luck
