Hello Chris,

First step if not completed is to have an Architect create and stamp the plans with their BCIN. Then the plans would go to an Engineer to be stamped and approved for the city/municipality in which you are building in. Then those approved plans are sent to the Township or City for a building permit.

The first step is getting blueprints drawn up and it's better if you have a engineer stamp the blueprints prior to going to your municipality or city hall for approval. Jeff

Chris, you can actually do all the planning yourself but it must show every detail (plumbing, electrical, roof pitch, etc.) and it all must be up to building code standards. As previously mentioned, it would be wise to consult with a builder, or someone in the business. Some places (like Nelson Lumber) can assist. Good luck.
