How much does it cost for demolition of small house & detached garage in Olds, AB?

How much to demolish an older 1940's A-frame type house & detached garage in Olds, AB? House is 900 sq ft., garage is roughly 15' x 30'. Good access off of main road, gravel driveway.. it's pretty much flat land. How long does it take? How much does a permit cost? Is land smoothed out afterwards or is a big open pit left?

Lot is .55 acres. Currently renting it out - but insurance co needs about 10K in updates to renew insurance.

Love the land - but house not worth it to repair. It's a character home... super "cozy"; 2 bed, 1 bath. Small lofts on both ends.

Thinking of demo & new build instead (but that's a whole other question!)

Thanks in advance for your time & replies.

Prior to demo, you will first need to have a hazardous materials survey/audit performed to determine what building materials contain asbestos, lead, mercury, etc. Once assessment is complete and test results are back, a scope of work must be created for removal of the hazardous materials.

With results and scope, we can then bid on the proper removal procedures for low, high and moderate risk Abatement.

We operate out of Calgary and would be happy to assess and bid on Abatement of any hazardous materials.

Hi Mel, when considering any demolition the first concern is where the materials are to be transported. I am sure that Olds and area must have a landfill site, you will need to contact to determine what they are prepared to take as debris.

Here in Calgary, landfill does not come cheap and it is recommended that materials be separated for recycling. Determine the distance to dump from demo site for appropriate materials.

The demolitions can easily be done inside of a day and clean up and transport may take a couple of days. The site would be back filled with on site materials and left at grade height. If native material are not available you may have to truck in material to fill hole. The demo permit should be under 500 and equipment costs will depend on proximity to dump site.

I have just completed demo of 900 sq. ft. fire damaged house in Bridgeland, Calgary, total cost just under 20,000

I hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Dana

That will cost $15000 - $20000 but you have to make sure first that will not contain any hazardous materials, this test will cost you around $100 and takes around 1 business day to get the result. This demo job will take around a week!

$15-$20k would get it done. To put a firm-firm number on it we would need to get a look at the site and relative location to demo material disposal area.

Cheers!

A house single story ,empty with standard basement in the city would cost about 6-7000

The Garage about 2000-2400 including the garage floor.

To go to olds would probably ad a few grand to that for travel and it assumes that there is a land fill in the proximity to bring the material too.

Demo includes removal of all material and a rough grade/level. Material can be brought in to fill hole for extra other wise the sides are usually tapered/sloped for safety. Marv
