We were planning to do new laminate flooring to our basement. Our installer said we have to level the floor first to do laminate flooring. Our whole basement is approx. 1200 sqft. Our one side of the basement has parquet flooring and other side has vinyl flooring.
How much will it cost to level 500 sqft of concrete floor?
We don't want to damage parquet flooring.
Please advise.
Your contractor is correct in objecting to install laminate flooring over a floor that is not level. This tells me you have someone that knows what he is doing. However, I question the use of laminate on any concrete surfaces if it has any wood content. Perhaps a better choice is a loose laid vinyl flooring available in many building supply stores. It comes in pieces that are 3 feet long and 1 foot wide. It simply lies on top of the concrete. It has tabs on two sides where you simply adhere the next one onto. I believe the brand name is called Allure. It goes for about $2.50 a square foot which works out to be much less expensive than re-levelling a floor. Keep in mind that it's not susceptible to water damage whereas wood products are.
Good Luck.
