I recently had my home renovated. My staircases were completed sloppy and poorly. Steps splintering, not measured to fit, not enough caulking and risers not painted. The contractor dismisses responsibility to come by and fix as he should. How can I go about having the work completed to our liking? This job was completed end of January 2017.
Ideally as a home owner it is best to still owe a small amount of money to a contractor after your renovation/job has been completed. You could threaten to call the better business bureau but realistically nothing will happen. If the contractor has sites that allow clients to leave reviews you can leave a poor review and they may want to clear things up with you in order to remove the negative review. Realistically if you have already paid in full and the contractor doesn't want to come back they likely won't.
This I know and figured through the entire project. I am in the midst of having another contractor come in and fix up the work and then take the original contractor to court.
First pull out the written contract you have with him. Which he probably didn't provide if he was "THE CHEAPEST QUOTE " Then file a lawsuit and waste a year of your life getting a judgement that you wont be able to collect on.
Chalk it up to a lesson learn: Always have a written agreement. Never be worried about the contract being too detailed.
Written contract was provided. For the amount of work that was completed I wouldn't have had it any other way. He wasn't the cheapest quote. but, he himself felt he under quoted. I can and have left review on here with the same pictures posted here. I don't mess around.
