So my bedroom has two doors, one to the living room and one to the hallway. I want to cover one with a mirror or maybe transform it into a bookshelf. I need a good way to completely cover it without building a wall. It doesn't matter if the door is still visible in the other side.
Hello there Rebecca, perhaps something floating and modular, meaning you can move it easily and restore what you had before without any damages. Could you provide a picture? Depending on your budget, a bookcase 80" or taller and 30-36" wide would conceal a doorway in a typical home. Another idea would be to vault the bookcase by fastening it to the door and coving the bookcase when you open the door (provided there is space behind the door when opened to accommodate the depth of the bookshelf) if you didn't want to sacrifice the second door. -Chadian
Hi Rebecca, I would suggest installing half inch good one side plywood over-the-door a little bigger than the mirror you want to install and you can install the mirror on the plywood once you fasten the plywood over the door and trim the plywood so your mirror has a nice border all the way around it and it's solid and movable with a few screws of course. Hope this helps you out Jeff
Hi there, I had a similar project where I built a mirror frame to the size of the outside of the trim of the door with a recessed back and it sat flat against the wall. I cut out the sides at the bottom so it can fit over the baseboard and attached it to the side of the trim with screws so if it needs to be removed the holes can simply be filled with some wood filler. The same technique could be done with a bookshelf. Its a pretty simple project. Hope this helps. It completely hides the entire door and trim.
