Right now I only have a tub and I want it converted to a walk in shower stall. The end wall of the shower would be where the pocket door would go. There is no plumbing or electrical in this wall. Since the tile wall will need to be torn down anyway should the pocket door be installed first and then the shower? The outside wall where the pocket door goes is done in venetian plaster and can NOT be used. The door would have to be install from inside the bathroom.

The answer is yes. Install your pocket door first. Pocket doors need rough framing kit installed prior to drywalling and finishing. Hope this helps you out. Jeff

Yes you have to install the pocket door first. All framing should be done b4 any plumbing and electrical. Pocket doors are part of framing.

Do the demolition first. Unfortunately it is next to imposible not to damage the venetian plaster on the other side of the wall as you will need to remove the existing framing from this wall, build new header and install the pocked door fame. You will also need to secure drywall from both sides as well, make sure to use the shortest drywall screws. I would also recommend to predrill holes on the plaster side to minimize the damage.

Good luck.
