Ideas to improve the interior of the house

Hi,

We're looking to replace/cover the ugly white board just below the window but not really sure what can be done (maybe the board can be covered with bricks, etc.)

A rough estimate would also be very helpful.

Thanks!

Hi Natalie,

Replacing (not covering) the board with brick may be possible. The board would have to be removed first, and a steel angle would have to be installed above the door for the bricks to sit on. An exact match of brick would be required so it doesn't look like a patch work. A brick mason and a helper should be able to complete the job in a day and a half, and shouldn't cost more than $2,000, including labour and materials.

Have you considered painting the board brown to match the door? It would be a lot cheaper ;-)

Hi David,

Thank you very much for getting back to me.

We actually considered painting the board, however, it looks like this will have to be redone every single year as the paint starts peeling off pretty soon. Another reason is that it will probably still look like a DIY project. So we'll most likely try the other option with the bricks.

Thanks again,

Natalie
