I'm trying to install a doggie door into an existing wall. It is next to a sliding glass door. As you can see from the picture there is a stud 9 3/8 from the molding. Is it safe to cut a stud for the installation of this doggie door....

I would be very hesitant. Studs support walls and any cutting lessens the strength. Ask a local contractor, but my answer is no.

Next to the pc of moulding is the framing for the patio door which should have a min of one jack stud and one king, you should cut the drywall roughly 6 inches above where the doggy door will go and put yourself in a 2x4 header to support the stud you will need to cut, frame for doggy door fix drywall and finish, al little more work but it will ne worth it and save you getting up every 5 mins to let the dog into the back yard
