Insulation

The insulation the builder put in 8 years ago does not meet todays building code, therefor it should be removed and replaced.

I always replace it. we strip the wall clean and then glue blue foam insulation sheets (R-10) to the foundation. Then use tap-con tape. You now also have your vapor barrier.

After framing the exterior walls and running any electrical or plumbing lines, we then add another R-15 - R-20 Roxul insulation prior to installing the drywall.

I always remove it and start with a fresh wall if possible.

Blue insulation is the best way to go, glued to wall, but not required.

So the 3 People that have responded so far must know Nothing for Codes in Canada. Start new remove Blanket insul. Remove Insul in joist pockets with Can foam spray any ty down cuts and any pipes / vents / Gas lines going out to the exterior / Tyvek / Typar the walls ( Moisture Barrier ) from sil plate to floor ( be sure to put label ( writing ) Towards concrete ( They rely on a Wax membrane to hold out moisture / Frame Exterior walls with 2/4 studs 1/2-1 inch from concrete / Insulate With R22 Fbreglass batt ( r2 above 2016 code ) the key is to be meticulous with the fit of the Batt cut to exact size do not cram it in / Accoutical sealant top plate / bottom plate / corners / all double studs / Use insulated Electrical boxes or Foam wire in/ out with can foam / If you wanted to do the Blue foam board follow all these steps Included with the Blue board.

You should read the question before you slag response from other contractors, he asked if the contractor should replace the existing insulation, not what code was.

Sorry Mark, ou could be right. R12 is still code For J Package Homes so it could meet today's Code but It's sucks. Your the one saying it doesn't meet code which is false. To the other guy Roxul R15/R20 doesn't exist/Insulation is often over looked And MANY contractors just don't know what they're talking about. If I offended you I apologize, not my Attention.
