I need your opinion - is the expansion joint important between the sidewalk and the house wall (foundation wall)? What if there isn't? Are there any codes or bylaws in Brampton about it?

Thank you.

your home has a foundation that prevents your house from shifting or moving. If you place concrete pad right next to the house with no expansion joint the edge will will start cracking over time due to the pressure. A concrete sidewalk has no footing so it will move during the different sessions.

Expansion joints are important and cost very little.

I would recommend you place a expansion joint between house and sidewalk pad.

Thanks.

The contractor didn't leave the gap between wall and sidewalk. Is it possible to make joints now buy using saw or grinder?
