Is it normal for newly installed tiles to be chipped after installation?

The tiler has repaired it using a pen filler. And it still looks pretty bad. Should this tile be replaced or is this a normal repair method and result?

The chip being filled is 1.5 inches long

No, you should not have chipped tiles after a new installation.

Just ask your contractor to replace the damaged tile.

Sometimes small cracks can be filled but in this case I would have replaced the tile. Ask your contractor - he or she will likely be happy to accommodate you.
