I have this question because my contractor has done some bad work. I worry if some work he has done has health and safety issues. Is there a company I can hire to go through what my contractor did and write a report? Thank you
Carol
I would contact a reputable contractor from trusted Pros who has many years experience with home renovations to double-check all your existing contractor's work. Majority of Home inspectors are not qualified for this process. You could also contact an engineer depending on what your project involved. Another possibility for you is to call your local city hall and explain to them he would like this inspected and believe it is been done wrong or incorrectly. I hope you get this rectified ASAP. Jeff
Hello Carol,
What health and safety issues are you speaking of?
There are many reputable contractors who can assist you in the profession they are trained in and able to actually tell you what meets code and what does not.
I would not recommend general home inspectors as these are not schooled in what rules are required for specific trades and their cities of ruling. They also cannot tell you about proper electrical, plumbing, gas, heating, structure, etc codes.
So depending on what issues you are concerned about, you should call and hire a professional tradesman in from their respective field of expertise!
The 1st step is did the building department inspector accept the work? If so it usually means it was done as per code.
The 2nd step is if it is workmanship then you should be able to higher a reparable Home Inspection company that is registered with one of the associations and have them inspect and write up a report based on their findings and approach your contractor with that information.
The 3rd step would be to put a official complaint into Tarion.
Hope this helps and good luck!
