Me and my wife bought a house and are thinking of renovating the kitchen. We are thinking of two things.
One would keep the existing layout and just upgrade the kitchen. The kitchen layout is 10 ft by 8 ft by 10 ft U shaped.
The other is to build a brand new kitchen while blowing out an exterior wall and expanding making the kitchen 10 ft by 45 ft an L shaped kitchen. We realize that this will increase the cost dramatically.
We were thinking the first one between 25k-40k, while the other probably closer to 60-70k.
Was wondering if this is correct numbers, more or less. What do you think?
Hi bryn,
Depends on the quality of the finishings you having and the materials.
Hi Bryn,
Actually, base on your description, I believe to do the second option it will cost you a lot more then that also as what the other contractor said, it depends on the material you want to use.
Now, my opinion is just change doors without touching boxes and if your counter top is not stone just change it to granite counter top as well as the back splash (use the same stone for your back splash)
And at the end, if you have enough space build a nice island for the middle with different stone top (different colour)
Good luck!
Hello Bryn,
Your first budget to renovate existing kitchen is very realistic, however the addition would be closer to 100K. There are so many factors that need to be taken into place ie. basement vs crawl space, brick vs siding, 1 storey vs 2 stories
Good luck with this. Make sure you research your contractor.
Cheers
Hi Ryan,
I think the second option is not quite practical but first option it make a better of sense and your budget still works fine for such size of a good kitchen.
Regards,
Mike
I think you are a little high on your figures ,I have good contractors that would side by side me for reasonable rates . I think 20-35K just replacing cabinets or 45-60K taking walls down and putting beams in . I think that is reasonable.
