Hi, my contractor estimated my square footage at 985 and priced me based on 985 square feet but he only used 45 boxes of laminate at 19.9 square feet per box, can l question him as why he is pricing me at higher footage ? I have paid him for material but not the installation ! Thank you.
Depending on the type of flooring, and the design it is being laid in, adding 10% material to the actual square footage is not only common, its usually recommended to account for waste or any damaged piece.
More complex designs could require even 20-25% extra
Hi
usually when contractor calculate they account for 15% wastage depending on site condition and layout. He might have used the small pieces in closet and other areas so may be your wastage was less. If the boxes are pack mostly all suppliers take it back. (Some times with 20% restocking fees) Irrespective you should pay for 900 Sft to round off.Balance of the material can be returned.
Actually, if they used 45 boxes that means the waste factor is included in that. That means your actual square footage is less than 895.5SF (45 Boxes), Realistically, you should only pay for 45 boxes material and labour.
Your contractor has calculated everything correctly including a 10%waste factor
However, if the floor is completed and there is extra FULL packages you should have no problem coming to an agreement with your contractor to only pay labour on product that has been installed.
Everyone calculates and has different rules on how they bill/quote or invoice.
If he has given you a sqft price than he should charge you for only what was installed if you were given a total price (without a sqft price breakdown) than the agreed upon amount should be paid. Hope this helps
Sure, you have the right to ask for clarification. Wastage accounts for at least 10%, depending on the length and width of the room. If you figures are close to his/hers, it is legitimate.
