Yes I actually recommend that because he also look at the structure and see how it was built and see all the flaws if there are things that u should be aware of in the future things like that.

Hi we do a lot of legal basement in Brampton and it's best to take a contractor that works in the area with you for some free advice.

I would also suggest YES unless you are confident with your knowledge of construction. Items like: egress windows, access, plumbing,sound proofing, etc. should all be considered. Some contractors will charge, but it is worth the cost rather than making "fixes" afterwards.

Hi There,

The first step is you are buying a house your Realtor should know if the legal basement is allowed in that neighborhood or not.

Second step is that you call the city and give them the street name and ask if the legal basement is allowed on that street? You can go in person in city to inquire and that would be the best information right from horses mouth.

The contractors MAY or MAY not have the street information and that could misfire.

Contractors visit is Good after you own the house with confirmation from Realtor and city that Legal basement is possible on that particular street.

We are Design and Build company and deal with such cases on day to day basis.

Then comes the other issues where contractor would be of GREAT help like means of Egress, Head room clearance, capacity for parking of vehicles. Cost of construction will depend on design, and finishes that is where Contractor will be helpful.
