I am unable to find a lock (which has a key) that I could operate it from the outside of the house. I had tried to find a trademark on the glass sliding door but without any success. Hence I am unable to contact the manufacturer.
I do not want to turn the existing knob up and down as a make-shift up/down lock.
I want to install a lock which is operated with a key which I can keep in my wallet.
How do I affix this supplementary lock (and remove the existing lock) on the glass sliding lock.
Will there be a problem with the matching of the new lock/key with the existing fixture?
Thanks
Amazon sells a lockset. "Sliding Glass Patio Door Handle Set with Mortise Lock, White, Keyed, 3-15/16 Screw Holes by TechnologyLK " That would work.
Hi Martin
A dead bolt lock for a regular door and a
lock for a sliding door unfortunately are two completely different mechanisms and operate in very differnt ways. You must go to
a specialty locksmith shop ( Don't only go to one ) get a few ideas. Locks and catches for a pocket door is sort of what you are looking for , but obviously in your case , for a Exterior application and key operation. this is not something you will be able to buy on line or at a HD.
The door looks fairly new. I would try to contact the builder or a window/door specialist to actually come and have a look and get some ideas.
I am not sure what your application is, but what about a security bar in the sliding track of the door? This will not work from the outside however.
Another option might be a magnetic strip lock that can be installed on the glass door and can be operated by a key to turn on and off.
