I have a log home and both left and right side walls have the 4 bottom logs rotted. Whats the scope of work I'm looking at here? Full tear down? Or just replacing?
I believe 4 of the 8 logs are rotted right through, what do I do!??
Thank you for any help.
You really need to contact a log home builder directly. I would think that there is some way of replacing logs without a complete tear down. I can't see it being cheap.
It is indeed a nasty process. Rot chasing is not cheap, as once it gets into sill logs it kind of affects everything.
Replacing the logs itself is not too difficult, but almost always requires very extensive shoring.
logs have to be pulled off right up to a clean log, so the top most new one needs to be rescribed.
A main question is why is it rotten? are they laying right on the ground? I have seen them just laid on creosote ties. but my point is, you may also have to factor in doing foundation work as well.
