Hi everyone. I'm posting this topic here with the hope that I'll find the best answer/advice.

Our story:

We are 2 guys working granite (finishing and instaling) for the past 7 years. One of us worked in Detroit, Montreal and now in Calgary. We want to open our own business (we are employed now) and take the installation part of the job as we don't have a lot of financial resources. We strongly agree to be licensed to have insurance as wel as WCB. We would like to be part of contractors with a good reputation. But we don't have one yet as we just begin. How can we get contracts, where should we go to ask for jobs ? How should we start ? Somebody maybe to know about a shop where we can rent the bridge saw to cut our slabs in Calgary if it comes to this ? We would like to start from the bottom to do a good work at good and honest prices. Thank you very much for your time.

PS: Great website.

hi George Ene i'm Phil i have some granite slabs & granite countertops that i am selling on craigslist and i really don't need it ... i am not a granite shop so i have no use to it ,.,, but maybe u can start with my pieces and then designing them to custom orders from customers ... I did alot of work for granite shops in whitby and in return they paid me by granite ,,, so now i need the money and to sell all but everyone on craigslist.org is too cheap ... maybe u can buy some off me and then put an add up on toronto.craigslist.org to sell them for higher prices or u can advertise ur business on there ,,, really busy site ... good luck

Hi guys...we're a new business in Calgary...noved from back east amlost 2yrs ago. We've been on our own since Dec. of 07 and are doing very well. We specialize in creative tile design...floors, countertops, backsplash, bathrooms, fireplaces ect... We don't advertise at all except a few free ads online which has only gotten us 2 jobs so far. Most of our work comes from a tile wholesaler we deal with. I make all our business card and what really sells us is the portfolio dcs I make which include reference letters, pics of our work, the products we use and a small write up of who we are and what we do. We hand them out to everyone. DOing things like this is a really inexpensive way to keep your costs down but still getting your name out there. If you could fine a granite countertop supplier and prove to them you are as good as you are and drop off something like what I've put together it could be a good start.

Send us your contect info...we sometimes have clients looking for granite countertops and we are always looking for good craftemen to refer.

Our Profile is on here under Broken Design TIling Ltd...not much here for pics but it will give you an idea of what I've done and maybe it could ehlp you out too??
