Hi,
Just looking for the answer to a couple of questions.
How deep do I need to go with concrete piles in Whistler, BC? We have a lot of snow but average winter temp for coast mountains is around -2 so there is not a lot of frost heave.
Secondly looking for some confirmation on how I am planning on building it. Deck is approx 6-8 feet off the ground. 20ft x 11ft.
I am planning the following:
4 x 10" concrete piles (depth to be confirmed but currently holes are dug to 3ft) placed 10ft from the house spaced 6ft apart.
posts - 6x6
beam - 4 ply 2x10's (or should I go 4 ply 2x12?)
Joist - 2 x 8, 12" on centre (or should I go 2x10) joist will be 11' providing 1' overhang over beam.
From my research I am pretty sure this is overbuilt but I am okay with spending the extra money on material as I am providing the labour myself.
Hi,
As far as I know you need to dig 4 ft down below grade anywhere in Canada by code. This will get you below the frost line and it will ensure the longevity of your deck. Everything else you're planning to build it with is up to par or better.
Hi,
The depth of your piles should be 4 ft. You can use 12" sonotube and stay at least 6" from grade with your concrete and use saddle for your post. The distance from the house is ok. As of for beams you can go 2 ply 2x10, but if you feel more comfortable you could use 3 plies. You can use 2x8 for joist 16"o.c. if you are planning to use 5/4 decking boars, but if you using composite you should go 12"o.c. all the rest looks good and a bit over kill.
Good luck with your project.
