I would like to know if it is advisable to have someone come in and do some drawings of what we can possible do to our home before getting prices from contractors. We are thinking about changing the layout, finishing the basement, adding a second floor balcony, changing the exterior look etc...
Hi Deborah.. you will be making a solid investment by engaging an Architect to define your ideas.. this will eliminate a majority of misunderstandings between yourself and a GC.
Deborah
The best way to avoid misunderstandings is to have drawings. There are reputable companies that do drawings at reasonablr rates.
I agree with what has been already said. I would just advise you to be certain that whoever you hire is qualified and understands building codes and structure. There are some designers out there who can make great drawings and suggestions but have no qualification/regard to these important issues.
Good luck,
Trevor
I would advise you to hire a reliable architech - they can help you design it and a drawing means no misunderstandings, Deborah.
