Should I use mortar under the becker board and then screw it or just screws are fine? This is for my washroom floor. The boards are 1/4 inch thick.

Hi Fahd.

Yes, definitely use mortar under the backer board. You want the floor to be as solid as possible. Using only screws won't do that. Make sure you use the correct backer screws or galvanized roofing nails. I use a combination of both.

Is the sub-floor thick enough to get away with using 1/4"? I would go with 1/2" or switch to Schluter Ditra. Ditra is a lot easier to work with.

Good luck.

Steve.
