I am renovating a 1970s basement and there appears to be drywall like material below the bottom plate for the interior walls. Never seen it before. Any ideas? Just worried if it has asbestos...
Don't assume just by looking at it. Go take it to a Lab it doesn't cost much to get tested.
Is there anyplace you recommend? I am in Edmonton.

Toni, there are several in Edmonton. Just "Google" material testing Edmonton. You might also consider testing for mold at the same time. I thing the drywall (or whatever it is) was acting as a sill barrier between the concrete and the wood. Usually it's plastic or styrofoam or similar product.
Looks like some amateur shoved plastic bags stuffed with plaster/gypsum to stop air leaks and maybe h20, not standard construction, likely no asbestos but who knows? Edmonton has no government agenct that does testing, they are several private ones, Fees range from quite low for a week or more long wait r higher to get next day, shop around and say you are a business I think they charge homeowners more or is it other way around? I always forget
