Hey everyone, sorry to start another "basement" thread but looking to find answers to the following questions. I tried to search but doesn't seem to be consensus:
1. Is there still a recommended "Wait" time for your basement to "settle"? I know from a Tarion Warranty perspective there's no big issue, they simply will not warranty any issues casued by basement finishing, while still covering any original construction
2. If there is a wait time, how does it work if you ask the Builder to do it as an "upgrade"? Will they do it quicker and have it done at closing?
3. How much customization does a Builder allow if they finish the basement for you? We are looking to build a room, full kitchen, washroom, separate entry (the house already has a separate side entrance) etc., vs. doing a simple rec room.
Thanks in advance!
The reason builders don't really want to do basements or include them in the build price is there is very little money in for them and big headaches, they made a crap load of cash building you your house so they always quote super high for basements and it will take forever for them to do it for you which is why most home buyers hire a outside contactor. Do your self a favor and find a reputable basement development contractor but have the builder add a extra furnace or bath rough in when house is built if you require it.
Thanks @John from Pisces!
Any info on whether they even do CUSTOM basements with multiple rooms etc.?
